Book List of 2014 Golden Globe Nominees

Last night's Golden Globe awards provided the usual pageantry of fashion and celebrities along with several ideas of what to read next. Below is a list of this year's movie and television nominees inspired by books. Titles marked with an asterisk have copies available in the WHS Library Media Center.

"Captain Phillips," based on Richard Phillips' A Captain's Duty
"Philomena," based on The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by Martin Sixsmith
"Saving Mr. Banks," inspired by Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers
"Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom*," based on the late president's 1994 autobiography (92 MANDELA)
"August: Osage County*," based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts
"Blue Is the Warmest Color," based on the comic book Le Bleu Est une Couleur Chaude by Julie Maroh
"The Wind Rises," adapted from Hayao Miyazaki's manga.
"Frozen," the Disney film was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen* (398.2 AND)
"The Wolf of Wall Street," based on the book by Jordan Belfort
"The Book Thief*," based on the book by Markus Zusak (FIC ZUSAK)
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire*," based on the book by Suzanne Collins (FIC COLLINS)
"Labor Day," based on book by same title by Joyce Maynard
"American Hustle," based on The Sting Man by Robert W. Greene
"Inside Llewyn Davis," inspired by The Mayor of MacDougal Street, the memoirs of Dave Van Ronk


Television Nominees
"Orange Is the New Black," adapted from the memoir by Piper Kerman
"House of Cards," based on the novel by Michael Dobbs
"White Queen," the miniseries is based on Philippa Gregory’s novel series The Cousins' War
